Dubai Marina Walk explained: how long it is, how to reach it by metro and tram, where to start, when to go, and what living next to the promenade is like.
Dubai Marina Walk is the promenade that runs along the Dubai Marina canal, lined with cafés and restaurants. Visit Dubai, the official tourism site, describes it as a place to dine and mingle along the Marina promenade. The wider route is about seven kilometres, and you don't need to walk all of it.
The wider promenade is about seven kilometres if you go all the way around, and TravelNow, on YouTube, says it suits walking or jogging. That is an approximate distance for the full loop, not a fixed route you have to finish.
Walk a section, stop at a café, and turn back whenever you like.
The Alisha Dhow Cruise guide names DMCC and Sobha Realty as the main stations on the Dubai Metro's Red Line serving the wider Marina area. Gulf News reported in 2023 that the Sobha Realty station (R36) is connected to the Dubai Marina Tram Station (05). So one route is metro to Sobha Realty, then the tram into the Marina.
The Dubai Tram serves Dubai Marina and Jumeirah Beach Residence, plus Al Sufouh, Dubai Media City, Knowledge Village and Palm Jumeirah. Gulf News described it as a 10.6 km network when it opened. Stops and connections can change, so check the RTA (Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority) journey planner before you travel.
A taxi drops you close to the promenade, and it is an easy choice in summer heat or after dinner. For bus routes, the same RTA planner is the place to check. Our guide to getting around Dubai explains how the different transport options fit together.
Rates and time limits depend on the car park, so check the signs at the entrance before you leave the car. Traffic around the Marina gets heavy at rush hour and on busy evenings, so allow extra time.
No. They are different places: Marina Walk follows the canal, while JBR Walk is closer to the beach. TravelNow, on YouTube, says that further along the route you reach a bridge that connects to JBR Walk. Either way, the two are close enough to do in one outing.
If you want the beach side as a base, read our page on Jumeirah Beach Residence (JBR). The nearby island is covered in our Bluewaters Island guide.
There is no ticket gate or official starting line, so you choose. Think of the walk in three parts:
Is there a map? Your maps app is the quickest option. Search "Dubai Marina Walk" in your maps app and add the Sobha Realty metro station or Dubai Marina Tram Station as your starting point. Then walk the canal edge. The water is on one side, so it is hard to get lost.
Expect cafés, casual restaurants and terraces facing the water.
One place stands out. TravelNow describes Pier 7 as a circular building on the Marina Walk with seven restaurants stacked one above another, each with a different cuisine. Menus, prices and opening hours change, so check each restaurant before you go. Booking ahead for a waterfront table on a weekend evening is sensible.
For a meal on the water, TravelNow said in an October 2025 video that dhow (traditional wooden boat) dinner cruises on the Marina last about one hour and cost roughly 120 to 180 AED per person including dinner. Prices change, so check the operator.
Evening is the main answer. TravelNow says it likes to walk between 6:30 and 9:00 p.m., because the air is cooler and the light is good for photos.
| Time | What to expect |
|---|---|
| Early morning | Tends to be quieter, good for jogging or a coffee |
| Late afternoon to evening | Tends to be busier |
Winter. In that October 2025 video, TravelNow recommends November to March, with temperatures usually around 20 to 25°C.
Summer. TravelNow says daytime temperatures can touch 45°C, so daytime walks are tough, but evenings stay manageable with the breeze from the water. Go after sunset, keep water with you, and plan for indoor stops at the mall.
For residents, the promenade is on your doorstep, but the trade-offs are real.
The Savante Realty team lists Dubai Marina among the areas they know best.
There is no general entrance fee for walking the public promenade, and it is generally accessible day and night, subject to temporary restrictions. Restaurants and shops along it keep their own hours.
Yes, it is a pedestrian waterfront, and TravelNow saw families with strollers, joggers and couples on it. There is open water beside the path, so keep young children close.
It is a popular evening walk, and TravelNow, on YouTube, found it clean and secure, saying you could walk the whole stretch even at midnight. That is one visitor's view, not a guarantee, so use normal city sense and stay with your group.
TravelNow says there is a rental station nearby where you scan a QR code and rent a bike for an hour. Check the operator for current terms.
If the Marina appeals as a place to live, read our Dubai Marina area page for what the area offers, and see properties for rent to compare buildings.
